Play with futurism
Fortunato Depero (Fondo, 1892 – Rovereto, 1960) was a prominent figure of Italian Futurism – an artistic movement oriented towards innovation, modernity, and change. Depero was painter, sculptor, advertising graphic designer, theatre set designer, interior and furniture designer. His toys and puppets, which inspired the characters of this game, had surprising shapes and bright colours to “reconstruct the universe by making it more joyful”, as you can read in the manifesto “Ricostruzione Futurista dell’Universo” (Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe), signed by Fortunato Depero and Giacomo Balla in 1915. In order to create this new amazing and coloured world, in 1919, the artist conceives an applied arts workshop in Rovereto – Casa d’Arte Futurista Depero, the museum which he himself inaugurated in 1959 and which then became home to the Mart, the Contemporary and Modern Art Museum of Trento and Rovereto.
The game consists of 10 transparent and colourful puppets that can be combined in a variety of ways to tell stories and play with shadows, and with light projections, you can draw new characters and puppets while guided from the millimetre paper.
